The Basic Diver Experience at Crystal Dive is the perfect introduction to scuba diving! It’s a one-day experience with minimal theory, starting in the shallow waters of a pool, where you’ll take your first breaths underwater.
Once you’re comfortable, you’ll board our spacious dive boat in the afternoon and enjoy one or two dives, guided by your personal instructor for the day. In just one day, you’ll get a true taste of the underwater world!

The Basic Diver experience is a 1 day program to introduce you to the underwater world & these are the parts of your experience:

Part 1: Intro & Briefing
To begin the Basic Diver Course, you’ll meet your instructor, get to know each other, and complete some necessary paperwork.
Your instructor will help you get properly fitted for your equipment and provide a detailed briefing covering essential techniques, safety procedures, equipment usage, and the hand signals divers use to communicate underwater.
You’ll also learn about how to interact responsibly with the marine environment and explore the options available to you as a diver after completing this program.
There’s a small theory portion to ensure you understand all the key points before heading into the water.
Part 2: Pool-Training
Your instructor will prepare your equipment and help you gear up, giving you time to get comfortable with it.
You’ll begin in shallow water where you can stand, taking your first breaths underwater and practicing a few essential skills you might need during your dives.
Once you’ve mastered those skills, your instructor will guide you as you practice swimming with fins in the deeper end of the pool.
And then? It’s time for a well-deserved lunch before heading out on the boat for your dive adventure!
Part 3: Open Water Dive(s)
Our spacious dive boat will depart in the afternoon, with your instructor once again preparing your equipment for you.
You’ll have time to relax and enjoy the stunning views as we take a short trip to one of the shallow dive sites around Koh Tao. Once we arrive, your instructor will provide a detailed briefing, review safety rules, and explain the techniques you’ll need for your first open water dive.
They’ll also share what you can expect to see underwater. Stepping off the dive boat into the ocean, your instructor (with a maximum of two divers per instructor for this program) will guide you as you explore the incredible marine life Koh Tao has to offer.
After your dive, you can either relax on the boat for a while longer or, if you’re as hooked as we think you’ll be, join us for a second dive—we always plan for two dives per trip.
While this program isn’t a certification, you’ll receive a certificate of completion. Plus, if you decide to upgrade to a full certification course with us, this program can be credited towards it.

Minimum Age
The minimum age for the Basic Diver Course is 10 years old.
Medical Statement
You need to be medically fit for diving. You find the medical statement for scuba diving here to download. If in doubt, please check with your physician or ask us before booking your dive experience with us.

Our Underwater Videography team, Crystal Images, is available to provide you with personal and lasting memories of your experience and offer unique underwater video and photo services for your course. You can choose from a 10 minute land and underwater based video or 10-15 high resolution photographs.
These options are available for your course and can be booked by clicking the button below and choosing the ‘video & photo’ option, in addition to your course booking.

Can I start my Basic Diver experience every day?
In general, yes. We start the Basic Diver experiences every day. To secure your desired start date, we recommend booking your Basic Diver experience online here. This will guarantee your placement in a small group of maximum 2 students per Instructor.
Is it possible to change the schedule for the Basic Diver experience?
Our schedules are flexible and we will do everything to adjust it to your travel plans. Please contact us to arrange for a schedule that suits you within the limits of the Basic Diver performance requirements.
What are the rates for accommodation in my Basic Diver experience?
For your Basic Diver experience, we offer accommodation in a private AC room (choice of Double or Twin) at a discounted rate for the standard course duration of 1 night. There are also upgrade options available for the adjacent Koh Tao Regal or Beach Club Resort. More information here or just contact us directly.
What are the minimum requirements to start my Basic Diver experience?

How many students will be together with me in my Basic Diver experience?
We pride ourselves to teach our Basic Diver in groups of max. 2 students per Instructor for the open water dive(s). If you travel in a bigger group, we can arrange for multiple instructors to teach you together. please contact us directly in this case.
Can I take a Go Pro on my dives for the Basic Diver experience?
For the Basic Diver as a program for non-certified divers, it is not allowed by standards to take any underwater camera by the instructor or student as you need to pay full attention at all times.
