We recently made an exciting transition to offer courses through SSI (Scuba Schools International) from January 2025 enhancing the quality and versatility of our diver training programs. After many years of experience with a different training organisation, we felt that SSI’s modern approach, extensive resources, and globally recognized certifications would provide an even more robust and flexible learning experience for our students & Pros.
SSI is renowned worldwide for its high standards in diver education, innovative digital training tools, and commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. With SSI, we can ensure that you’ll receive top-tier instruction tailored to meet your needs at every level of diving, whether you’re just starting or looking to advance your skills. We are committed to making your scuba journey as enriching and memorable as possible, with the confidence that you’re getting the best training available.
Until the end of 2024, you can book and we will offer you PADI courses as before and we will serve any prebooked course as well within 2025. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information, if you have any questions about continuing your education with either Training organisation.
Our website content may not yet fully reflect this transition, as we are in the process of updating it to showcase our new SSI offerings. Rest assured, however, that you’ll be receiving the highest quality training available. Below content is still based on our Divemaster program for 2024 and if you are interested in starting with PADI this year, this will give you an idea of your program.

At Crystal Dive Resort we schedule the Divemaster course using a personalised flexible scheduling system. On average candidates take 4-6 weeks of training through to Divemaster, but it’s your choice; if you want to take your time and rack up lots of dives and experience that’s fine with us.

To join our Divemaster program there are some minimum prerequisites:

Minimum Age
To join our Divemaster program you have to be at least 18 years of age.
Minimum Dives
To join our Divemaster program you need to have 40 logged scuba dives. If you don’t have them upon arrival, you can build those up here before officially starting with your training.
Certifications
You will have to be a Rescue Diver (or equivalent) and completed the EFR Primary and Secondary Care training (or equivalent) within 24 months before Course start & certification.

TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT YOUR DIVEMASTER COURSE WILL LOOK LIKE,
HERE’S AN EXAMPLE SCHEDULE:
To begin with you will sit an Orientation. This is conducted by one of our two dedicated ‘Divemaster in Training co-ordinators’. Our DMT Co-ordinators will be responsible for supervising your entire course and overseeing your schedule from Day 1.
As well as scheduling they personally conduct the following modules:

Early during your DM course you will be assigned a ‘mentor’ from our Instructional team. They will personally oversee your progress and ensure your course is progressing as you wish (and as we wish too!).
You will spend some of the course ‘assisting student divers in training’ and although you will have the opportunity to assist a variety of our Instructors, and when possible, assist your mentor.
We will schedule your training in sequence, building up your diving skills, confidence and experience step by step whilst you enjoy Koh Tao’s fantastic dive sites and marine life.
We have over 25 dive sites close to the island ranging from shallow coral reefs, giant boulders, small caves and swim-throughs to deeper outer laying pinnacles. There are also two wreck dive sites within a 25-minute trip.
As your Divemaster internship progresses, you’ll gradually assume more responsibility, becoming more and more part our team.
You’ll be assisting with:
Boat & dive centre logistics
Assisting Scuba Reviews
Delivering briefings to divers
Assisting our Instructors with student diver training
Guiding certified divers on underwater tours
Assisting our Divemasters with certified divers
ACCOMMODATION ON KOH TAO
Alongside the Divemaster course we can help organise a range of accommodation to make sure your stay here on Koh Tao is comfortable.
Most long term Dive internship trainees stay at a nearby guesthouse. You can get your own private room with cable TV, fridge, en-suite bathroom, wifi etc. The prices vary depending on size, a/c or fan cooled, whether you want a hot shower and also the season.
If you budget for 10,000 – 14,000 THB per month you will not be disappointed although there are places available from as little as 7,000 THB.
If you prefer something more up market, there are detached private bungalows or houses with multiple bedrooms, kitchens etc. These range from 18,000 – 30,000 THB per month, depending on location, size. etc.
We’re happy to show you around all room options on arrival and help find somewhere you are happy with. And if you have any special requests, please feel free to let us know and we’ll do our best to help.

As you are completing a Professional level training course, you will be completing multiple dives over multiple days over multiple weeks. It is important you have an insurance policy that covers this type of diving.
