DIVER PROPULSION VEHICLE (DPV) SPECIALTY
Feeling too limited sometimes, how much you can see on a single dive as you can’t get far enough? Use a DPV!
Using a Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) offers a lot of benefits. You can simply cover a greater distance on a single dive, as the Underwater Scooter is carrying you with ease even through moderate to strong currents.
As you don’t have to use your fins, you will even save air and gain more time to explore the underwater world. In the Diver Propulsion Vehicle Course you will learn how to safely operate a DPV on the surface and underwater. You think about descents and ascents with it, as well as how to maintain and store it properly.
But the main thing is, that you will have a lot of fun as you practicing different turns underwater and use your DPV to explore!
DPV’s are well used with specialised activities such as Cave Diving and the Diver Propulsion Vehicle Specialty Course links in with many other Specialties like Nitrox or Search & Recovery Diving.
Have fun in a small group of max. 4 students per Instructor & get your personal ‘James Bond feeling’.

Part 1: Theory
We start with an introduction and you will complete the necessary paperwork.
The theory for your Diver Propulsion Vehicle Specialty Course is covered by self-study with your personal copy of the manual and 2 Knowledge Reviews. We will give you plenty of time to study and you will already be introduced to some hands-on practice with the Underwater Scooter you will be using for your dives later.
Together with your instructor you will then look at the features of your DPV, the battery charging requirements, how to take care of your Underwater Scooter pre- and postdive.
Part 2: DPV Open Water Dives
After lunch we will get on one of our 3 custom built dive boats and head out for two dives.
On these dives you will learn how to safely enter the water with a DPV and the handling of your Underwater Scooter on the surface before actually descending. Descents as well as ascents with a DPV actually work as normal, as you don’t want to go up or down too fast.
Once you reach the bottom you will practice how to maneuver with your DPV using different turning techniques and learn about towing each other in case of DPV failure. And obviously: you will have a lot of fun underwater!
After your dives, we will finish your course by completing the post dive equipment care for your DPV as much as your dive equipment. You will add your dives to your logbook as a newly certified Diver Propulsion Vehicle Specialist!
