The Rescue Course includes the EFR (Emergency First Response) First Aid Course on Day 1. Within 3 to 4 days you will gain all techniques through theory, skill practice & scenario sessions to handle all possible emergencies you may experience in your life as a diver.
Self-Rescue is a big part in this course to be able to prevent problems in the first place.

Are you “rescue ready”?
In as little as 3 to 4 days you will gain 2 certifications, being trained in First Aid as well as becoming a RESCUE DIVER.
Depending on your personal schedule and maybe, if you already have valid first aid training we will adjust the program for you and move elements of your personal course to accommodate for your holiday plans, but in general, these are the parts of your training:

Theory: eLearning or in-class options
You have the choice when booking your courses and choose between classroom and online version for the theoretical part. Whether you are short on time, want to get straight in the water when you arrive, or just prefer your self-study to be done at the beach rather than in a classroom, then you should pick the EFR & Rescue Diver Online Option.
In the EFR & Rescue Diver Online version videos & reviews are integrated making it easier to stop and start and learning at your own pace.
Taking this option will allow you to deduct between 1- 1.5 days of classroom time whilst being here on holiday and as well give you access to the FULL version (incl. Videos) of the eLearning materials.
If you choose to take the theory onsite instead you will watch a Video for the 2 sections of the EFR Course as well as another one for the 5 Chapters of the Rescue Diver Course. There are Knowledge Reviews for each of these, which you can easily fill with the information you get from the video.
EFR (Emergency First Response) Course
The EFR – Emergency First Response Course is a general CPR & First Aid training to introduce you to techniques used to provide help to others in need in daily life.
The course consists of two parts: the first part being Primary care (life-threatening emergencies) and the second part is Secondary Care (non-life-threatening issues, in case emergency services are delayed).
If you have completed the Online theory you will go straight into action and practice 10 primary and 4 secondary skills. These include Barrier Use, Primary Assessments, CPR, Airway Control and Rescue Breathing. Secondary skills consist of Injury and Illness Assessments as well as Bandaging and Splinting.
To finish of the practical session your Instructor will have you solve some scenarios and put what you have learnt into practice.
The EFR course can be done in either half a day (online theory) or full day (theory in class). If you already have a First Aid Certification from a recognized agency within the past 24 months, then you don’t need to take this course and you can start straight away with your Rescue Diver Course.
Rescue Diver Course
The Rescue Diver Course is spread over 2 to 3 days depending on your choice of theory (online vs. in-class) and consists of theory, a pool session, and two afternoons of “serious fun” on the dive boat.
We start with an introduction and the required paperwork. If choosing the in-class theory option you will spend 2 half days in our classroom to learn the theoretical background of the Rescue Diver Course.
If you have completed the theory online beforehand, you will get straight to practicing in the swimming pool!
We will introduce to you some of the new skills in one of our purpose built dive pools. Here you will have the chance to practice in an easy environment with good conditions to follow the demonstrations of your instructor.
Skills practiced include:
– Self-Rescue skills review
– Distressed divers underwater
– Tired / Panicked divers on the surface
– Surfacing an unresponsive diver
– Unresponsive diver on the surface
– Exiting an unresponsive diver
Once you have practiced in the pool it is time to get “Rescue ready” on the boat.
Spread over two days, you will go on the boat which will take you to some of our shallower reef sites around Koh Tao.
The first day on the boat you will mainly spend your time repeating and perfecting the skills you learned already in the pool before. There will be some skills, where you will need to adjust your techniques for being on a boat, for example, exiting using a ladder.
We will introduce you to skills that you haven’t practiced in the pool yet to learn all necessary techniques. These skills include:
– Reacting from a boat to an responsive diver on the surface
– Nonswimming assists (throwing, extending…)
– Respond to an unresponsive diver on the surface from a boat
– Effective searches for a missing diver using search patterns.
The second day on the boat you will get plenty of time to hone skills you want to work on and then it is time to put everything together in our Final Scenarios. You will act as part of team and use your resources and Emergency Action Plan to fix anything that may “happen” in this afternoon as a Rescue Diver … – Serious Fun!
After this, you are a fully qualified Rescue Diver and with a well-earned drink in the bar you can plan your next adventures.

Minimum Age
The minimum age to enrol for the Rescue Diver Course is 12 years. Please note, that 12-15 year old divers will receive the Junior Rescue Diver certification and will have to be accompanied by an adult diver until reaching the age of 15 years.
Minimum Certification Level
Medical Statement
You need to be medically fit for diving. You will find the Medical Statement for Scuba Diving here to download. If in doubt, please check with your physician or ask us before booking your dive experience with us.
Insurance
To comply with our dive insurance requirements, you will need to have proof (logbook etc.) of a dive within the last 6 months otherwise you will need to take part in our Crystal Dive Scuba Review before taking part in the course to receive our insurance cover.

Can I start my Rescue Diver Course every day?
In general, yes. We start our courses any given day. To secure your desired start date, we recommend booking your Rescue Diver Course online HERE. This will guarantee your placement in a small group of maximum 4 students per Instructor.
Is it possible to change the schedule for the Rescue Diver Course?
Our schedules are flexible and we will do everything to adjust it to your travel plans. Please contact us to arrange for a schedule that suits you within the limits of the Rescue Diver Course performance requirements.
Is there a shorter course option available for the Rescue Diver Course?
What are the rates for accommodation in my Rescue Diver Course?
For your Rescue Diver Course we offer accommodation in a private AC room (choice of Double or Twin) at a discounted rate for the standard course duration of 3 or 4 nights. How many students will be together with me in my Rescue Diver Course?
We pride ourselves to teach our Rescue Diver Course personal in groups of max. 4 students per Instructor. If you still prefer a smaller group or a private course please contact us directly. On the other hand, if you travel in a bigger group, please let us know and we will arrange for multiple Instructors to teach you together.
Can I take a Go Pro on my dives for the Rescue Diver Course?
You can take your own camera on any of the dives. Be aware though, that you may be busy with the tasks at hand. A better option may be to arrange for our In-House Video & Photo company Crystal Images to either take professional photos or a broadcast quality video of you on two of your dives on the Rescue Diver Course.
